These Scientists were all involved in the Manhattan Project.
The Manhattan Project was the one that created both bombs ("Little Boy and "Fat Man") that were dropped over Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
In 1938, many people thought that Hitler would create an atomic bomb because a German scientist had split a uranium atom. Hitler had made the mistake of prosecuting (locking up) Jewish scientists. This made many other scientists retreat to America. One of these scientists was Albert Einstein. He abandoned his pacifism (want of peace) and convinced President Franklin D. Roosevelt that he should begin research on the atom bomb. This resulted in the start of the Manhattan Project.
Robert Oppenheimer and General Leslie R. Groves were the directors of the project, and they chose some of the best scientists, mathematicians, and engineers to complete the Manhattan Project. European scientists also participated in the project. Some of these Scientists were Albert Einstein, Enrico Fermi, and Leo Szilard.
